Howard & Sons Ltd were a chemical and pharmaceutical company known for manufacturing aspirin. They were obviously proud of their employees, a letter to the Times 25 Mar 1931, from Geoffrey Howard, director, pays tribute to Albert J Gwinnell who had been continuously in their employment for 62 years and that the total years service of their 20 oldest employees totalled exactly 1,000 years.<\/p>\n

Equally when their employees died during the war, both WW1 and WW2, they placed their own tribute to them in the chapel at Ilford Cemetery.<\/p>\n

Sadly the chapel has now been demolished due to dereliction and vandalism and the memorial moved to Barkingside Cemetery, Longwood Gardens.<\/p>\n

The names inscribed on the memorial have been saved by ‘Boreenatra’ who has kindly let us publish his photos here.<\/p>\n
